Meet Annette, the Founder of Lucky Rabbit Publishing

Annette Flavel is coming to children's book publishing with 23 years’ experience in educational publishing. Her goal is to create modern classics: beautiful, emotive, moving children’s picture books for kids and parents who love words and stories.

She believes a good story hooks you in and gets you on the character's side. It makes all things possible. Down-to-earth and recognizable characters become your good pals. Empathy, humor, comicality, self-deprecation, self-awareness, or a comical lack thereof all make the magic that is an unforgettable children’s book character.

What makes a good story?

  • “The music of the words! An excellent picture book is beautiful to see and lovely to read. It has a gentle percussion that drives it when being read aloud. It should be both enjoyable for children to read alone, and fulfilling for the adults who will read it over and over!”

Heather Harris Bergevin, author of Enough Elizabeths

  • “A good story has you connect with the characters. You can understand who they are, their quirks, their personality and really get to know them. By getting to know the characters in a book, becoming invested in them, and really immersing yourself in the action from their point of view, you can take a break from the outside world.”

Ansley Whiteside, author of Turner B. Goes to NYC
